Ellen Page is becoming known for her man suits and Kristen Stewart recently went androgynous for designer Stella McCartney.
But Emmy adds a sexual fierceness that is all her own in Spirit & Flesh magazine’s “Alter Ego” issue.
She wears a black bowl-cut wig that gives her a harder edge or her hair pulled back tightly.
She compliments the look with a black leather motorcycle jacket, ripped jeans, and a black suit jacket, pants and white shirt.
A dangling cigarette toughens her look.
But the 28-year-old actress never loses her femininity or sexuality. The shots, by photographer Brian Bowen Smith, are a sharp contrast from her “Shameless” character.
Rossum plays Fiona Gallagher, the eldest daughter of Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy), who heads a dysfunctional family on Chicago’s working-class South Side. Frank is an alcoholic, who drinks non-stop, forcing his six kids to fend for themselves.
Fiona is the eldest and takes on the role of tending to her siblings. She’s even forced to drop out of high school her junior year because of the demands of her family.
But Fiona is determined to make something of herself and struggles to complete her education and find more than a dead-end job.
Rossum has solid big-screen credits, including her breakout role in the 2003 film “Mystic River,” directed, written and scored by Clint Eastwood with an all-star cast that included Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden and Laura Linney.
She won national acclaim for her role in the 2004 movie musical, “Phantom of the Opera,” including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
She starred in this year’s film drama, “Before I Dissappear,” released in November, and has two films in post production.
