Jepsen, 29, still looks like a baby-faced teen. But she returned with a new, more mature looking hairdo and a polished stage act.
The singer, who hails from Canada, finished third in that country’s version of “American Idol” in 2007. But she’s probably best known for her teen anthem “Call Me, Maybe.”
The song was an YouTube sensation, quickly soaring to more than 500 million views and hit No. 1 on both U.S. and Canadian singles charts. Justin Bieber took her under his wing, and she signed with manager Scooter Braun’s record label.
That was three years ago. She’s largely been under the radar ever since.
But Jepsen said in a recent interview that she is working on her third studio album. She said it would have a pop and folk music sound.
But if “I Really Like You” is any indication, the sound will be pure pop. As for the lyrics, it’s just another silly boy-meets-girl drama about finding someone special.
Critics have likened it to ’80s synth pop and some have said it comes a little too close to Taylor Swift’s style.
