President Obama answered one burning political question last night (Mar. 12) on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” He’s not getting advice from Kanye West–on anything–shooting down the rapper’s boast that the president has his home number on speed dial.

West has never been shy about inflating his own importance, which makes him a perfect match for Kim Kardashian.

But his claim that the president has called him at home is way over the top. And, he was serious. It wasn’t some rap rhyme.

Last November, West claimed the president met with him and Kardashian two weeks before last year’s mid-term elections to help get out the vote. Both Tweeted their support afterward.

“Me and my wife met with President Obama two weeks ago,” he Tweeted. “I’m supporting the Democratic ticket in these midterms. The midterms are extremely important.”

During a discussion about the South-by-Southwest Music Festival, Kimmel brought up the fact that West was going to be on the show next week.

Kimmel noted that West said only yesterday (Mar. 12) that he could call Elon Musk or President Obama out of the blue and that Obama calls him on his home phone, “by the way.”

“Are you having conversations with Kanye?” Kimmel asked somewhat incredulously.

That drew a chuckle from the president.

In the past, the president has expressed disdain for both West and Kardashian, specifically her reality shows, their crass lifestyles and their influence on young teens.

In an August 2013 interview, Obama said they represented “a warped American dream.”

Obama even called West a “jackass” for bum-rushing Taylor Swift during the MTV Music Video Awards after she won for video of the year. He thought Beyonce deserved it.

But as the saying goes, politics makes strange bedfellows. So who knows?
