Kanye West, the rapper who likes to yap, is pushing back against President Obama after the commander-in-chief told Jimmy Kimmel earlier in the week that, contrary to Kanye’s claim, he doesn’t have his home phone number.

West, speaking off the cuff to paparazzi at Los Angeles airport yesterday (Feb. 13) disputed the president.

“I love Obama. He called our house before. He knows that,” West said with a smile. Then, with a grimmace he added: “Don’t try to pit us against each other. I love Obama.”

But what else can you do? West was essentially calling the president a liar for denying the extent of their relationship. That’s enough for Fox News to declare this a full-blown scandal. Call it “Phonegate.”

The issue came up when the president made an unprecedented visit to ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

The talk show host brought up the subject when he noted that West said only on Thursday (Mar. 12) that he could call Elon Musk or President Obama out of the blue and that Obama calls him on his home phone, “by the way.”

“Are you having conversations with Kanye?” Kimmel asked somewhat incredulously.

Last November, West claimed the president met with him and Kardashian two weeks before last year’s mid-term elections to help get out the vote. Both Tweeted their support afterward.

In his response to Kimmel, the President seemed to acknowledge the November meeting, saying he recalled meeting West “about six months ago.”

But he made it sound like it was no more than a meet-and-greet at an event attended by other celebrities and high-rollers.

He also recalled meeting West in Chicago before the rapper was famous. At the time, he said he was still a U.S. Senator.

“Look, I love his music; he’s incredibly creative,” the president added, trying to categorize their relationship. “I don’t think I’ve got his home number.”

Obama has criticized West and wife Kim Kardashian in the past, often in harsh terms.

He once said West and Kardashian represented “a warped American dream” and called West a “jackass,” after he bum rushed the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards to protest Video of the Year honors for Taylor Swift.
