Taylor Swift, who reportedly just insured her legs for $40 million, probably should insure the rest of her body after posting a video barreling down the road in a car with girl group Hiam. No one was wearing properly fastened seat belts.

Swift, who takes seriously being a role model, should know better.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States among those aged one to 54, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

More than two million adult drivers and passengers are treated in emergency rooms annually from injuries sustained in car wrecks. Young adults, 18-24, which happen to be Swift’s demographic, have the highest crash-related injury rates.

Seat belts have proven to reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about half. Yet, 55 percent of teens age 13 to 20, who were killed in car crashes were not wearing seat belts.

Adults age 18-34 are less likely to wear seat belts than adults age 35 or older, according to the CDC.

Given Swift’s huge fan base, most of whom are in their teens or early 20s, it’s pretty irresponsible of Swift to allow herself to be filmed riding in a car without a properly fastened seat belt.

Swift posted the clip on Instagram showing the three Haim sisters Este, Alana and Danielle and herself riding in what looked like a minivan.

Swift and one of the sisters were sitting in the back seat and the two other Haim sisters were sitting in pop-up third row seats.

They were having a rocking good time, singing Faith Hill’s “This Kiss.”

Swift was wearing a seat belt without using the shoulder strap. The Haim sisters looked like they weren’t wearing them at all.

“Real friends are the ones who walk into your house and go get snacks out of the pantry without asking,” Swift wrote. “Happy Birthday, Este!”

Actually, real friends don’t let their friends ride in cars without seat belts.
