Madonna got a little help from her new friend, Taylor Swift last night (Mar. 29) at the iHeart Radio Awards Show. She appeared onstage to backup Madge on the guitar while she sang her song “Ghosttown.”

Swift was scheduled to appear as a presenter, but was not scheduled to play because she’s rehearsing for her 1989 Tour.

Madonna took the stage for her song and Swift was also there, but initially blocked from view by the Material Girl. When she launched into her song, Swift emerged playing acoustic guitar.

The 24-year-old singer did not add her vocals to the song and stayed seated on a stool strumming away while Madonna performed her number.

The duo gave a hint of a possible collaboration when they were spotted before the show rehearsing the number together.

Madonna planted a kiss on Swift’s cheek after they finished. It wasn’t quite as dramatic as Madge’s full-on kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

That was interpreted as a passing of the crown. This time, it was more like a little girl-on-girl appreciation. Swift only met Madonna for the first time at this year’s Grammy Awards in February. But they’ve become soulmates since.

“She has an opinion, and she’s going against the norm. So in that respect, she is similar to me,” Madonna told Rolling Stone when asked about Swift.

“And also, people just want to give her a hard time all the time because they think she’s a goody-two-shoes, so of course I want to embrace her.”

Although their styles are radically different, Swift may be the most popular pop artist since Madonna’s hey day.
