The set up video, which went viral yesterday (Apr 14) fooled some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.
The short clip looked a little too contrived to be real, according to a number of social media wags, although Quaid gave a stellar performance.
“I can’t even get a line out until dopey the dick starts whispering in your ear, you’re not even watching anymore,” he shouts at the director off-screen as he launches into his epic rant.
“Don’t fu*king Dennis me,” Quaid shoots back, after someone apparently tries to calm him down. “I am doing my job here. I am a pro. This is the most unprofessional set I have ever been on,” he rants.
The “I am a pro,” comment seemed a little too fatuous to be true, even for an overweening Hollywood ego, and was the most obvious tip off that something was up.
Then today (Apr. 15), “Funny or Die,” a Web site known for spoof videos, dropped the denouement. The full video shows Quaid’s complaints were literally true.
Dopey the dick is actually a character in a penis costume. When he yells out “This is horseshit,” he’s actually standing in a pile. He appears to be calling set extras “zombies” and calls someone a “baby.”
But, yes, there are real zombies on the set and an infant.
Finally, he screams “Blow me!” But he’s actually talking to his stylist. He wants his hair restyled and admits he gets a little testy when his hair gets flat. Oh… and the pussies? Yes, real kittens.
