The American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) sponsored the event, challenging cartoonists to draw the best depiction of the Prophet Mohammad.
As everyone, or at least Muslims know, any depiction of the Prophet is considered blasphemous by believers. So two radicalized men showed up at the event armed with automatic weapons to exact revenge.
Fortunately, they were intercepted outside by police and both were killed in a shootout. One of the men turned out to be well known to anti-terrorist authorities, but had been considered harmless.
Stewart reminded everyone that it is un-American to shoot somebody who simply offends your with words or pictures.
“I can’t believe we have to reiterate this,” Stewart said on Monday night’s show. “It is not okay to shoot other people because you are offended by what they draw. Even if they drew it to offend you — no shooting of them… never ok to shoot people.”
On other Texas craziness, Stewart also lampooned Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for ordering the Texas national Guard to monitor U.S. military exercises in the state out of fear of a possible federal takeover.
Stewart in a whispered aside informed Texans that the federal government already controls Texas and has since the 1840s.
