Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, one of Hollywood’s power couples, blew away tabloid reports that their marriage is heading for divorce with a simple family stroll May 28 around their exclusive Brentwood neighborhood. They married in 2005.
The tabloids trumpeting their looming break-up–OK magazine, The National Enquirer and radaronline–have a poor track record predicting celebrity divorces.
The biggest piece of evidence is the fact that the couple had not been seen together for about a month. From there, the tabs filled in the blanks citing the usual anonymous sources.
Garner and Affleck have been fodder for rumor mills almost since they married. But reports of marital woes have always proven to be wrong. The tabs typically cover their misreporting by claiming the couple is staying together for the sake of their two children.
The latest spate of reports has followed the same arc. “Often, when Ben and Jen have a problem, they just agree to ride it out and be miserable together until they can get some time apart,” a source allegedly told the gossip site.
But this time, Garner, 43, reportedly has reached the “breaking point” after suffering for years with marital problems.
Affleck, on the other hand, is only waiting for the opportune moment to announce the break up, hopefully before their 10th wedding anniversary June 29. That way media attention won’t interfere with the promotion of his new movie, “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.” It’s scheduled for release in March 2016.
Garner told Yahoo! Parenting last week that her marriage demands “patience.” She added:
“You just go on a ride together because you don’t know who you’re going to be when you first have a baby and you don’t know who [your partner] is going to be. You have to just hang in there while you figure it out – and have a lot of patience for each other.”
Her comments could be read two ways.
As for their time apart, Affleck, an avid gambler, was spotted solo in Las Vegas, May 3 and again May 14, playing in a high-stakes card game. Garner was in New York during his latest trip.
Affleck was also reportedly spotted in Canada without his wedding ring on Apr. 17, which is Garner’s birthday.
Jennifer was pregnant with daughter Violet when they married after dating for almost two years. It was her second marriage. She wed “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Scott Foley in 2000 and divorced him in 2003.
Affleck was previously in a high-profile relationship with singer Jennifer Lopez. They started dating in 2002 and became engaged before calling off their marriage suddenly in 2004.
