Pejić, 23, just became the first transgender model in fashion history to score a cosmetics contract. She’ll be repping for Make Up Forever.
According to some reports, she’s also the first transgender model to land a beauty contract. The campaign, titled “Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You,” will also feature actress Jamie Chung.
Only a year ago, Pejic was known as an androgynous model and posed in both women’s and men’s clothing. During Paris Fashion Week in 2011, Pejić walked in women’s clothing for Jean-Paul Gaultier and men’s clothing for Marc Jacobs.
Pejić underwent sex reassignment surgery last year and went public with her new look in the the July issue of People.
Although she had the genitalia of a man, she looked decidedly feminine and said she also considered herself a woman. IM reported on Andreja’s sex change in April.
“I thought, ‘Try to be a boy and try to be normal,’” Pejic told Vogue magazine.
“Society doesn’t tell you that you can be trans,” she says. “I thought about being gay, but it didn’t fit. I thought, ‘Well, maybe this is just something you like to imagine sometimes.'”
Caitlyn harbored the same thoughts for far longer and kept her longing to be a woman bottled up until she began undergoing hormonal therapy a few years ago. She came out as a woman this month in Vanity Fair magazine.
Jenner has done more to lift the veil on transgender women than anyone and transgender women are gaining increasing acceptance in society. Transgender model Hari Nef was recently signed by IMG Models
Barnard College, one of the of the Ivy League’s seven sisters schools, announced this week that it will admit transgender woman to the all-girls school.
