Selena Gomez posted a somewhat cryptic message on Instagram that seems to have a pretty clear meaning; she’s the latest celeb to express her frustration at unending tabloid headlines that are largely made up about her and her relationships.

There’s no question that Selena is news, but she didn’t bargain for abusive tabloid headlines based on the flimsiest information, or totally fabricated out of whole cloth.

In her Instagram post yesterday, she seemed to say, enough is enough. “I want to claim my own name,” read a message in the photo.

Much of the tabloid speculation, of course, has focused on her relationship with Justin Bieber. Almost every move she makes is interpreted by tabloids to somehow be related to the “Believe” singer–whether there’s a connection or not.

In a caption to the photo, Selena provided a peek at her feelings.

“Sometmes I get frustrated when I hear lies about who I am. You have watched me grow in pain and I’ve owned up to it through my music and actions. I grew up with you. I am beyond excited to show you the next chapter, the TRUTH. I’ve been keeping so many secrets.”

Whether it’s the start of a new promotional campaign for her next album remains to be seen, but Selena seems to be speaking from her heart. It sounds like she’s about to become more aggressive about knocking down tabloid rumor mongering.

If so, she joins a growing crowd. Kim Kardashian, who’s made a career out of tabloid headlines, said last week she’s also tired of the rampant speculation that surrounds nearly every move she makes, much of it wrong or made up.

She was particularly irked by reports that she was hiring a surrogate to have a baby for her and claims she was faking her pregnancy.

The headlines are an insidious way to get page views from unsuspecting fans on tabloid sites, but it comes at a price to celebs like Selena who are constantly maligned.
