Pratt will make $12 million to play the lead in “Passengers,” a science-fiction movie described as “Gravity,” with a love story.
Lawrence’s “Hunger Games” movie franchise has also grossed more money than any other action movie starring a woman, according to the latest “Guinness Book of World Records.”
But the 24-year-old actress may be the exception that proves the rule.
Last year the Academy Award winner was at the center of a storm when it turned out she was paid less than male counterparts Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale to star in “American Hustle.”
“Obviously we need to create more opportunities, it’s not an even playing field,” Kidman told reporters at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards in Los Angeles last night.
Meryl Streep, Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart among other actresses have voiced similar concerns.
“We’re all working and banding together and trying to change that and that’s what’s needed,” Kidman said. “We also need to put cameras in little girls’ hands and get them to tell stories and increase their confidence so that they can feel powerful.”
Kidman, who stars in the upcoming Werner Herzog film “Queen of the Desert,” received the “Crystal Award for Excellence In Film” at the event.
