TheImproper broke the story three days ago (June 23) that it would be impossible to tell the sex of the baby this early in her pregnancy, simply because the fetus isn’t developed enough, according to her own statements.
A new report in USWeekly, citing a source, reported that Kim was only impregnated with male embryos because husband Kanye West wanted a boy and an heir. The report is consistent with the facts surrounding her pregnancy.
While there is no law against engineering the sex of the baby in a test tube before being implanted, the American Medical Association considers the creation of so-called designer babies, “unethical.”
But Kim said in an interview this morning on the “Today” show that the USWeekly report was “false.”
“It came from a tabloid, and I’m grateful to just be pregnant and we would be happy with a boy or a girl,” she said.
The USWeekly source said Kanye was the one pushing for a designer baby. The source claimed:
“Kanye loves Nori more than anything, but to make his world complete, he wanted a little boy, a heir. Kim would have happily taken a healthy baby, but being able to choose the sex is the cherry on top.”
What’s ironic about her denial is the fact that she’s contradicting her own statements and medical science.
The reality star announced June 22 that she and West have “actually known baby No. 2’s gender for a while now,” according to E! News. But that would be nearly impossible.
While Kim hasn’t said exactly how she got pregnant, or when, the reality television network confirmed, June 3, that her due-date is in December. That means, counting back nine months, she got pregnant in April.
If she got pregnant in April, the most she could be along is 12 weeks, and the least, eight weeks. According to medical references, the earliest it’s possible to tell the sex of the fetus is around 18 to 20 weeks.
Most pregnant women undergo an ultrasound at four-and-a-half to five months, according to Dr. Elizabeth Pryor, writing on parents.com. Even then, she cautions, it’s not always possible to tell the sex of the baby.
Amniocentesis is another reliable method to check the baby’s chromosomes. Even so the test is usually performed around 16 weeks, according to Pryor.
What really throws the math off is Kim’s statement that they’ve actually known baby No. 2’s gender “for a while now.” That definitely would be impossible, unless Kim underwent IVF treatments and was impregnated with a designer baby.
In 1994, The Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, an arm of the American Medical Association, said using genetic selection for anything other preventing or curing specific diseases, is unethical.
Of course, most web sites including so-called tab-buster “Gossip Cop” are reporting Kim’s denial without fact-checking or investigation.
Kim, who stars on a supposed “reality show” should tell the truth if only because other similarly situated women deserve to know the “reality” of her pregnancy.
