Cantrell looked poised in an aqua mini-dress when she was asked about the NFL “Deflatgate” scandal that engulfed New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Brady was suspended for six games after an NFL investigation found that he probably knew game balls had been deflated for the NFL Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts.
But a federal court judge ruled that Brady wasn’t treated fairly during the investigation and overturned the suspension. Brady started the opening season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and won.
“Legalities aside, did Tom Brady cheat?” asked celebrity judge and country music singer Brett Eldredge.
Cantrell had to ask him to repeat the question. She briefly fumbled the answer saying she’d have to feel the balls herself to decided if they were deflated. But gamely followed up.
“If there was a question there, then, yes, I think he cheated,” she said. “If there was any question to be had, he definitely cheated and should have been suspended for that. He definitely cheated.”
Of course, she missed the fact that Brady’s due process rights were violated, but hey, cheating is cheating, and she scored in the end.
Cantrell, a 21-year-old student at Mercer University, was overwhelming in the talent competition with a soaring operatic performance.
The runner-up was Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts. Miss New York, Kira Kazantsev, won last year’s competition.
