The 23-year-old singer released the video today (Sept. 22).
“I think ‘Same Old Love’ represents a different kind of identity with love,” she said in an upcoming interview with Radio Disney.
While Selena is definitely projecting a far more mature, grown-up image, she also talked about what she believes is the real meaning of love.
“The first people you love in your life are your parents. So for me, my dad is the first male figure I had in my life,” she said.
“And how much it means to respect your parents and have a healthy relationship with them because it trails on into your relationships when you’re older,” she added.
Selena, of course, was involved in a long on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber. It was her first experience with love, but she acknowledged that they both have moved on.
“I’ll forever support him and love him in a way that… We grew up together,” she told Elle magazine in its October issue. She even implied that they didn’t have sex.
“I think people want it to be different. We’re too young for that. Nobody was married. There was no…” she says. “I respect him. And I think he respects me, in a healthy manner,” she said.
The single is off her new album Revival It’s all about how Selena is taking control of her life.
She also has a gritty new movie “In Dubious Battle,” coming out in the new year.
It’s an adaptation of the 1936 John Steinbeck novel about a California labor strike. James Franco, her costar from 2013 romp “Spring Breakers,” directs and stars in the movie.
She calls “Same Old Love” her “forget it,” “I’m sick of all of it,” song.
“You left in peace, left me in pieces/My body’s had enough/I’m so sick of that same old love,” she sings.
Goodbye childhood. Hello, the rest of her life.
