Lady Gaga told Jimmy Fallon last night that redeeming themes permeate her first television role on “American Horror Story: Hotel,” a spooky show about human oddity and the macabre. The show premieres tonight on the FX network.

“There is a very interesting exploration of themes of addiction and themes of survival,” she said.

Cheyenne Jackson, Naomi Campbell and Max Greenfield join Gaga for the episode along with returning cast members. They include Lily Rabe, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett and Chloë Sevigny.

The “Paparazzi” singer said she was thrilled to be on the show. “I love scary things. Dangerous things relax me,” she explained.

Her character is a vampire. “It’s a strange world that [Co-creator Ryan Murphy] has created of these very narcissistic characters that are all trying to survive in their own way…

“So, you find yourself going what is right and what is wrong and what is good and what is evil,” she said.

“Like drinking blood,” Fallon interjected.

Oddly enough, Gaga’s first choice for a career wasn’t music. She said she studied method acting for 10 years, growing up in New York City. But nervousness and awkwardness at auditions kept her from landing roles.

So she decided to pursue music instead, and the rest, as they say, is history.
