Stewart touched off the latest tabloid speculation when she showed up at a concert of hardcore band PVRIS last week in New York City.
Gunnulfsen, 21, who goes by the stage name, Lynn Gvnn, is a band founder along with Alex Babinski and Brian MacDonald. The trio hails from Lowell, Mass.
Before long tabloids were reporting that Gunnulfsen and Stewart were and item. As always, an anonymous “source” provided the details.
“Kristen and Lynn are dating Kristen came to see Lynn when her band played in New York last week,” the source said.
“They were hanging out backstage. The whole crew knows they’re seeing each other, and they left together, too.”
Thus a rumor was born. But is that all there is?
Gunnulfsen reportedly has been in a relationship since 2012 with Love, Robot guitarist, Alexa San Roman, who has come out as gay. So far, there have been no reports that they’ve split.
On the other hand, there have been a number of reports that Stewart has split from her personal assistant Alicia Cargile, even though neither has ever confirmed they were even dating.
To the contrary, Stewart seemed to imply just the opposite during an interview with Conan O’Brien.
Stewart fueled rumors about a possible lesbian relationship because they were/are close and constant companions. Cargile had even moved in with her.
But Kristen implied that her relationship was much like Conan’s relationship with his personal assistant, Sona Movsesian.
“The relationship between a celebrity and their assistant is very complicated,” said O’Brien.
“There’s so much isolation and protection that has to happen,” she replied.
“So, then you sort of like end up, kind of like, hiring a buddy, a confidante, like, somebody to organize your schedule, but in addition to that like kind of like live with you,” she explained.
No hint of a sexual relationship there.
When asked specifically about her sexuality, Kristen was ambivalent.
“Google me, I’m not hiding. If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it,” she said.
But for her part, she’d rather just be known as an actress. “I don’t feel like it would be true for me to be like, ‘I’m coming out!’ No, I do a job.
“Until I decide that I’m starting a foundation or that I have some perspective or opinion that other people should be receiving, I don’t. I’m just a kid making movies.”
The upshot is, Kristen hasn’t said one way or the other. Tabloid reports to the contrary are just rash speculation.
Lesbian chic is a tabloid obsession right now and two women paling around immediately fuels a speculative whirlwind.
It happened to Selena Gomez when she vacationed with UK model Cara Delevingne, who is openly bi-sexual.
The same was true about Taylor Swift and model Karlie Kloss. When they were spotted paling around at a concert, the tabs quickly claim they were in a relationship.
But both Selena and Taylor have brushed aside the rumors. Kristen ultimately may, or may not do the same. But for the moment, it’s unfair to call it either way.
