Jolie wrote and directed the film, which doesn’t necessarily bode well.
Her previous writing and directing effort for 2011’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey” and her direction of 2014’s “Unbroken” resulted in plodding and sometimes ponderous films.
The good news is she’s on familiar ground. She cut her acting teeth on romantic dramas.
Pitt lacks her range, but doesn’t have to do much. Jolie is capable of carrying the film.
The couple was seamless in their last collaboration, “Mr and Mrs Smith.” But they made that film more than a decade ago.
Now, Jolie is 40 and Pitt is 50. They are probably best known to twenty-somethings as the parents of six children. And who wants to watch their parents get hot and heavy?
On the other hand, marriage is universal and the picture appears to touch themes that relate to anyone who is married or thinking about getting married.
Pitt and Jolie play Roland and Vanessa, an unhappily married couple who try to save their relationship by taking an exotic vacation. But they meet a newlywed couple, who complicate their lives even further.
The moody scenes and visuals captured in the video are the work of cinematographer Christian Berger, who is known for filming in natural light.
