Goulding 28, is replacing Rihanna who unexpectedly dropped out. She’ll join Selena Gomez and The Weekend.
The show will likely provide Goulding with the biggest U.S. audience of her career.
Last year, the fashion extravaganza pulled in 9.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen. Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and Hozier were the acts.
Goulding’s UK breakout came in 2010. The singer won the Critics’Choice Award at the Brit Awards, the equivalent of the Grammys in the United States.
She released Lights, her debut studio album the same year. It hit No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart right out of the box. It sold more than 850,000 records in Great Britain.
The album was released in the United States on in March 2011 and fell short on U.S. charts. It debuted at No. 129 and only sold 2,000 copies its first week.
Following a short U.S. promotional tour, including a “Saturday Night Live” performance, the album regained traction. It eventually sold about 300,000 copies in the United States and peaked at No. 21 on the album charts.
Her sophomore studio album, Halcyon, hit the streets in Oct. 2012. It debuted at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 9 on the US Album chart. Although it fell short of her debut album in the UK, it earned Goulding the Female Solo Artist Award at the Brit Awards last year.
in all, she’s sold more than 4 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide since she launched her career, according to chart statistics.
Her single, “Love Me like You Do” released earlier this year, was included in the soundtrack of the erotic movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Her latest single “On My Mind,” off her third studio album, Delirium, was released last month. The album will be released Nov. 6.
Artistically, she has a soprano vocal range that spans 3.5 octaves. But she’s probably better known for her breathy tone and emotive delivery. Goulding is also known for her athleticism on stage.
With flowing blonde hair and model looks, Goulding has also made inroads into fashion.
In May a year ago, she appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine. She followed up with a photo spread in Glamour.
She was forced to deny rumors she’d had a boob job. She appeared in her latest spread this month in the UK edition of Glamour.
