IM first reported two weeks ago (Nov. 11) that Bieber had committed to a promotional tour that would challenge him both mentally and physically.
He’s coming off a three-year layoff, yet he’s signed on to a 58-stop tour that will taken him across North American from Seattle in March to New York City in July. He’s playing at least 10 shows a month with a sprint in April that will include 15 shows in 30 days.
That’s a grueling pace even for the most seasoned touring artist. But Bieber didn’t even make it that far.
He’s been making the rounds promoting his new album, which has done phenomenally well considering his long layoff. But last night he bagged an appearance on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and also withdrew from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
He was slated to tape his parade and Colbert appearance today (Nov. 24).
“My apologies to @colbertlateshow as I won’t be able to make it to nyc tomorrow for the show,” he Tweeted the surprise announcement.
He added: “@StephenAtHome thank you for the understanding as sometimes life kicks our ass and we need to deal with it. I will see u soon. Thank you.”
Bieber has reportedly been riding a “roller coaster” of mood swings. “It’s just become too much,” a source told gossip site TMZ.
“Personal issues” reportedly are to blame, but so far there has been no elaboration on what they might be. It does not involve drugs or alcohol, the source said.
Bieber has had trouble controlling his emotions in several public appearances. During the MTV Video Music Awards in August, he became so emotional on stage he began sobbing uncontrollably.
He walked out of a performance in Norway in October when rowdy fans spilled water onto the stage. The day before he walked out of a Spanish radio interview. Afterward, he complained in a Tweet about “long days, no sleep, while having to be ‘on'” for his appearances.
Justin was caught in another public display earlier this month in Cannes, France. While having lunch with an associate he suddenly stood up, flipped over his chair and stormed off. A fan caught the scene on video. (See below)
At issue, again were unnamed “personal issues,” although he’s known to have become estranged from his mother, who raised him without his deadbeat dad.
Ironically, his career is skyrocketing again with the release of Purpose, which debuted at No. 1 on the charts. He was also lauded at the American Music Awards over the weekend.
He was even spotted with his old flame Selena Gomez. But Justin is clearly not in a good frame of mind.
Why his management locked into a tour that will be fare more pressure packed than recent events is baffling.
