Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, is known for her chameleon-like stage persona and dance-driven music.
So the Madonna comparisons are unsurprising. But really? The Iron Maiden of pop?
The claim seems odd since she spent the summer with crooner Tony Bennett on their “Cheek to Cheek Tour.” The duo sang old standards and jazz tunes from their album by the same name.
The album won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Grammy Awards.
Gaga was also just honored as the 2015 Billboard “Woman of the Year.”
She’s currently working on her fifth studio album, which she says will be heavily influenced by her appearance on dark drama “American Horror Story.”
“I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
The English heavy metal band formed in the mid-1970s and went on to release 16 studio albums, ll live albums, four EPs and seven compilations. It’s biggest album, The Number of the Beast, led conservative Christian groups to brand band members Satanists.
So what does Iron Maiden think about her new direction? Frontman Bruce Dickenson is down with it in a separate interview in RS Italia.
Here’s a rough translation:
“I think Lady Gaga is fantastic and I agree with you, she is decidedly better than Madonna. First of all because she can play and sing; she has a fantastic voice. She’s also a good musician. And then a person who shows up at an awards ceremony dressed as a bacon sandwich can only have my respect. What can I say? She is a great.”
Madonna posed for photographer Bruce Weber, stripped of all makeup. Check out her photos, let us know your thoughts and be sure to follow IM on Twitter for the latest music news.
