The science fiction action comedy film, a reboot of the 1990 film series, exceeded expectations at the box office.
The 2014 picture grossed $191.2 million domestically and $493.3 million worldwide, according to boxofficemojo, which tracks receipts. That put it squarely in sequel territory. The original three-film series grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
For the latest film, Dave Green is directing and Michael Bay of “Transformers” movie fame is one of the producers. The live action actors also include Stephen Amell, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, Brian Tee, Tyler Perry, Brittany Ishibashi and Laura Linney.
A slew of celebs also make cameos. Keep an eye out for Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio and Judith Hoag, who played April in the 1990 film.
From the sports world, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and Los Angeles Clippers players DeAndre Jordan, J.J. Redick and Austin Rivers will also pop up in scenes along with Memphis Grizzlies star Matt Barnes and Charlotte Hornets standout Spencer Hawes.
Beyond that the movie looks to be more of the same, as the turtles take on a variety of nefarious characters, who wreak havoc on their beloved city. Why mess with success, right?
