The British-American drama, directed by Tom Hooper, stars Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery around the turn of the 20th century.
Alicia plays Gerda Wegener, an artist known for erotic art nouveau and art deco portraits. Her husband, Einar Wegener, also an artist, modeled for her in women’s clothes under the name Lili Elbe.
The portraits were highly erotic and shocked society when Lili’s true identity was discovered.
Her film resume goes back to 2007 when she appeared in a series of short films. Her first introduction to an American audience came in the 2012 British film “Anna Kerenia,” starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law.
The following year, she appeared in the 2013 thriller, “The Fifth Estate,” directed by Bill Condon. The film, about the news-leaking website WikiLeaks, stared Benedict Cumberbatch.
This year she appeared in the American action comedy “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” The spy film was directed by Guy Ritchie and starred Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. She plays the daughter a former Nazi scientist working on a secret weapon.
She’s definitely grabbed Hollywood’s attention. She has three film projects coming up in 2016.
“Tulip Fever,” about the 17th Century Tulip mania in Europe, stars Dane DeHaan and Christoph Waltz. She’ll also appear in “The Light Between Oceans” with Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz.
Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the film is about an Australian couple living in a remote lighthouse. A child washes up in small boat and they decide to raise her.
Vikander will also star in the upcoming fifth “Bourne” film, directed by Paul Greengrass, according to deadline.com.
