The 5’3″ Michele, who reportedly lost 10 pounds last year on a vegan diet, doesn’t smoke or do drugs, and rarely drinks alcohol because of her hectic work schedule. And the self-professed homebody wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I don’t smoke and I don’t do drugs,” Michele, 24. “I never have and that’s who I am.”
Lea, who became an overnight sensation last year thanks to her hit musical-comedy series, says it would be impossible to dance and sing at the level required for her show while being a party animal.
“This show would be a huge pressure on someone who wanted to rebel and who wants to party, but I don’t have those needs or wants,” says Michele.
“The Glee schedule is relentless: 14 to 16 hours [a day], Monday through to Friday. These days I have one glass of wine and I’m completely gone.”
Lea, who stays fit thanks to her strenous Glee dance workouts, a vegan diet and yoga, says she now feels attractive — something she didn’t always accept.
“Glee has made me feel beautiful,” she says. “Now when people say that I don’t feel like they’re lying.”
But living in body-obsessed Los Angeles can make anyone feel like an ugly duckling, and Lea is no exception.
“I love myself, the way I look, my body, but sometimes I can’t help but feel insecure [in L.A.],” she says. “It plays with your head.”
Does she have any secret vices? Tattoos. The petite singer/actress has nine small tatoos, each representing an important milestone in her life.
“They’re all tiny. I mean, you saw me in the shoot today, I was practically nude. Did you see any? No. I’m telling you, I have nine. All so, so, so little.”
