Jennifer Lawrence was a no show at the Critics Choice Awards, even though she was up for Best Actress. She also missed witnessing BFF Amy Schumer win for Best Actress, Comedy, and take home the MVP award. What gives?

Lawrence was stung last weekend when a seemingly innocuous exchange with a Golden Globes journalist turned into a major social media storm.

She was criticized for scolding the reporter for using his mobile phone. He was trying to ask a question at the same time.

Defenders said the exchange was just an example of Lawrence’s dry wit. Critics said she seemed high-handed and imperious.

Until then, she’d led a charmed life in front of the camera. She often jokes about her own gaffs and is known for her self-deprecating humor.

The Critics Choice Awards, sponsored by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, aren’t in the same league as the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards.

It’s unknown at the moment why Lawrence decided to pass on the show. It was attended by a cross-section of Hollywood’s A-Listers, including Jennifer Aniston, and other Oscar nominees.

Last week, the 25-year-old actress won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in “Joy.” The movie is loosely based on Joy Mangano, a Long Island woman who invented the “miracle mop.” She went on to found a multi-million dollar business.

Last night, Brie Larson, 26, won the Critics Choice Award for best actress for the movie “Room.” She also won the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama. That makes her a front-runner for the Oscar.

She plays a woman who is held captive for five years in a small, squalid room with her son. They are finally able to escape but both have trouble adjusting to the outside world when they reunite with their family.

Lawrence has now been nominated four times for an Oscar. She won once for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook.” She’s also won three Golden Globes and four Critic’s Choice Awards, so God knows, she doesn’t need the publicity.

At the same time, she may feel she’s near the saturation point for over-exposure.
