Who knew Conan was a royal toady? After all, this is America, which threw off the yoke of Royal oppression way back when.
Froggatt, who plays Anna, the personal maid to Lady Mary Grantham (Michelle Dockery), stopped by the show to talk about the hit program’s sixth and final season.
The show is a fictional account about Britain’s upper crust during the turn of the 20th century and members of the royal family from that time have figured in various plot lines. But who knew real British royalty would visit the set?
Froggatt said Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, decided to “pop in” one day while they were filming with virtually no advance warning.
“We were all very excited,” the 35-year-old actress recounted. “Michelle Dockery and I were the only people actually filming that day. Everybody else was in to meet her. And, obviously there’s a lot of security that comes with it as well.”
Advance members of Middleton’s party even checked out the house with bomb-sniffing dogs. “It feels like a huge event,” she said.
When the Duchess of Cambridge was finally on her way to Highclere Castle, where the show is filmed, Froggatt said they actually went through a countdown before her arrival.
“Someone kept rushing and saying she’s going to be here in 10 minutes. She’s going to be here in nine minutes. ‘Ok, right, nine minutes.’ So you’re just getting more and more nervous everytime,’ she said.
Froggatt said she and Michelle were in Lady Mary’s bedroom filming a scene when Kate finally arrived and walked into the room.
When she came over to say hi, Froggatt said the conversation immediately went south.
Incidentally, it’s a mystery why an American show would limit the video’s release in the UK. The show noted on a press release that the video would only be available in “select countries.” Don’t they know the Internet is worldwide?
