He makes his latest foray in the world of visual arts with a stunning editorial spread in Numero Homme magazine.
The French fashion publication features him in a number of different avant garde looks, captured by well-known fashion photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino.
Pattinson returned to modeling for Dior Homme Perfume and now also reps for Dior Homme apparel. He seems to photograph best in black and white images that show off his angular facial features and tousled hair… always the tousled hair.
The actor, who shot to fame in 2008 as vampire Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” movie series, will reach a seminal birthday this year. He will turn 30 in May.
His film resume since “Twilight” has been as varied as it can get. They range from romantic dramas like “Water for Elephants” and “Remember Me,” both shot between “Twilight” films.
Among his post-“Twilight” pictures are surreal fantasy thriller “Cosmopolis,” gritty drama “The Rover” and “Maps to the Stars,” a study of Hollywood psychosis.
Most could be considered arthouse indie films. They’ve uniformly seen only limited release in the United States and only won modest praise from critics. It’s probably easier to see them on pay-per-view than mainstream theater.
Pattinson says he’s more interested in the characters and subject matter than he is in making blockbuster movies. God knows, he doesn’t need the money. But as he approaches 30, he must be thinking about the film legacy he’s leaving.
In the interview, he talks about the impact of “Twilight” on his career and he confesses that it still hangs over him.
“I always feel like I have to prove myself. I did not have enough lead roles to make the people forget about it or to see me any differently,” he says, according to a rough translation.
“I had a chaotic progression, with moments of explosion. It took years to digest what happened to me, the movies’ success, the celebrity… [Before] I did not have a career plan, no particular ambition. I had to create them from time-to-time. I still have lots of doubts about myself. The people I work with know this. Three weeks before filming, I just panic and call my family or friends telling them I will never be able to do it. At that moment I really think it is the truth. My confidence leaves me, reduced in tatters. And then it is back when I enter the set. Even knowing this, the next time, it happens again. The people around me don’t even listen to me anymore.”
In contrast, his fashion work is soaring. His 2013 Dior Homme commercial has been viewed more than 22.5 million times on YouTube. That’s probably greater than the audience for all of his post-“Twilight” films.
Now, Pattinson’s latest Dior campaign is about to break. Some teaser photos have already been released, shot by legendary fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, who has also photographed Kristen Stewart.
Meanwhile, he continues to take secondary roles in his latest films: “Queen of the Desert,” “Life,” “The Childhood of a Leader” and the “Lost City of Z.”
He will star, however, in his new picture, “Good Time,” a gritty crime drama now in production.
