Kesha, who made a big splash six years ago with a hot debut album, gave a rare performance at the Coachella Music Festival yesterday in a move that almost surely violated her contract with Dr. Luke and his record label. Kesha has been in a heated legal battle to break the contract over sex abuse and rape allegations.

The 29-year-old singer appeared on stage with Zedd, aka Anton Zaslavski, a Russian songwriter, producer and DJ.

She performed Zedd’s “True Colors” from his second studio album by the same name.

The appearance was Kesha’s first live appearance since she wrapped her Warrior Tour last year. She released a bootleg music video two years ago, without her label’s permission.

IM first reported her fight in 2014. It began over creative differences and escalated into a lawsuit.

So far Kesha, real name Kesha Rose Sebert, has suffered setbacks in court and has been unable to break her contract. She filed suit in New York state, which has strong contract laws.

Even so, the electro-pop singer has won a lot of support among celebrities, including Zedd, who has offered to produce her music. “Thank you Coachella! Thank you @KeshaRose! This was special,” he Tweeted after the show.

As a result of the legal battle, Kesha hasn’t produced new music since the release of her album Warrior in 2012. She wrapped her Warrior Tour last year.

Kesha was 18 when she signed a multi-album deal with Dr. Luke’s label Kemosabe Records. Her first album Animal, was a breakout hit.
