Kristen Stewart looks like a girlish ingenue in the first trailer for Woody Allen’s “Cafe Society.” The clip also reveals the first plot details of Allen’s secretive script. The move is set in 1930s Hollywood, complete with massive egos, starlets and the mob.

Allen almost looks like his borrowing a page or two from F. Scott Fitzgerald, who captured the Roaring Twenties in his book “The Great Gatsby.”

Fitzgerald’s tale was set in New York City. Allen’s movie takes on Hollywood. But it has more to do with the underlings and the bosses who ran the town during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

This is Stewart’s first film for Allen. Judging from the trailer, however, it looks like she can’t get a break.

Although she’s the star, Blake Lively is a scene stealer. She could overshadow the “Twilight” actress, much like Charlize Theron did in “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

The original party girl Park Posey also appears in the film.

The plot revolves around Jesse Eisenberg, the young, naive nephew of a Hollywood publicist played by Steve Carrell, who wields plenty of behind-the-scenes influence.

Stewart’s character works for him and soon she and Eisenberg hit it off. The romance develops among the many temptations and corruptions of the times. Among them is Lively, who plays a seductive temptress.

The film looks like it’s pure Woody Allen, complete with eccentric characters and lots of rich dialogue.

Maybe Stewart’s third collaboration with Eisenberg will be the charm. They first starred together in the cult classic “Adventureland,” but their next picture, “American Ultra” proved to be a box office bomb.

Allen, known for his complex characters and twisting plot lines appears to be shooting for another comedy hit along the lines of “Midnight in Paris,” and “To Rome With Love.”

Both Stewart and Allen are widely popular in France. As such, “Cafe Society” has been tapped to open the 69th Cannes Film Festival in May. It will be out of the running, however, for the coveted Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest award.

Stewart will also appear in French director Olivier Assayas’ picture “Personal Shopper.” The film will compete for the Palme d’Or, giving Stewart a shot at winning another top award.

Festival director Thierry Fremaux pronounced Kristen “Queen of Cannes” during a ceremony revealing the movies that will be screened during the event.

Stewart one her first major acting award, a French Cesar, for her supporting role in the French-Swiss-German film “Clouds of Sils Maria.” The award is France’s equivalent of an Oscar. The film was also directed by Assayas.

“Cafe Society” opens in theaters, Aug. 12.
