Tiger Woods‘ ex-wife Elin Nordegren made a surprise appearance at this year’s Kentucky Derby. She was photographed at Churchill Downs and on the Derby red carpet wearing a yellow knit off-the-shoulder dress and a stylish hat. It was a rare public appearance for the Swedish beauty.
Nordegren, now 36, has been living a low-key life since her $100 million divorce from Woods in 2010, following his spectacular sex scandal the previous year.
Woods’ marriage and career imploded over Thanksgiving 2009 when Nordegren confronted him over an affair he was having New York party girl Rachel Uchitel.
Nordegren discovered texts from Uchitel on Woods’ phone. He scrambled to get out of the house and wrecked his SUV in the driveway of his sprawling Florida home. The National Enquirer already had reported details of the affair.
The scandal was made all the worse because the Swedish beauty and golf champion where thought to have had a picture book marriage. They had two children together and he was the world’s top golfer, with more endorsements than any other sports figure.
Nordegren was totally blindsided by the Woods, who turned out to be a serial womanizer. More than two dozen alleged sex partners during their marriage came forward.
After an attempt at reconciliation failed, the divorce was finalized in Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Fla., on Aug. 23, 2010. Elin went back to school, divided her time between Florida and Sweden and built a sprawling waterfront mansion not far from her old marital home.
Two years ago, she graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., with a degree in psychology. She had begun her studies the year she met Woods during the 2001 U.S. Open Championship.
In July 2011, IM reported that the former Swedish model was dating Jaime Dingman, the son of billionaire New York City investor Michael Dingman.
The two had been dating for months before going public, according to The New York Post. But they broke up less than a year later. Elin apparently wasn’t ready to jump into another marriage, according to reports at the time.
Last December she was spotted with billionaire businessman Chris Cline in New York City. They had an on-again, off-again relationship the previous year.
She appeared to be flying solo at the Derby. She was photographed in the crowd with Palm Beach socialite pal Nicole Henry, who owns a noted West Palm Beach art gallery.
Woods also had other Derby connections. Former girlfriend and Olympic skiing champion Lindsey Vonn was also spotted on the Derby red carpet and enjoying the race at Churchill Downs.
Vonn met Woods at a 2012 charity event in 2012. and started dating the following March. They split in May a year ago in a mutual parting. The couple cited conflicting schedules and time apart.
Woods, himself, was a no-show at the Derby. He’s been recovering from injuries and hasn’t played a pro golf tournament in almost a year.
