Wood, 35, made the allegations in a new interview with the Sunday Times of London. He said Hollywood is filled with “vipers,” many of whom are high-powered film executives.
His charges come on the heels of renewed allegations that Woody Allen sexually abused stepdaughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old. Allen was investigated but no charges were brought.
He’s heatedly denied the allegations and continues to work in Hollywood. A number of actors and actresses who have worked with him defend Allen or dismiss the claims.
‘If you’re innocent, you have very little knowledge of the world and you want to succeed, people with parasitic interests will see you as their prey,” said Wood.
“What upsets me about these situations is that the victims can’t speak as loudly as the people in power,” he added. “I’ve been led down dark paths to realize that these things are probably still happening.”
The most publicized and most controversial case involves Director Roman Polanski, who was convicted in the 1970s for coercing a 13-year-old actress into having sex.
Polanski pled guilty to one count of having sex with a minor, but fled the United States before he could be sentenced by a judge. He’s been on the lam ever since, living in Europe. He’s dodged several extradition attempts by the U.S. government.
One of the most shocking case ever to come to light in Great Britain involves entertainer Jimmy Savile. He had a long career in show business and was even knighted by the queen, according to The Times.
But after his death in 2011, he was revealed to be a serial pedophile who abused dozens of victims during his five-decade career. The revelation led to charges that government figures and broadcasting executives covered up his behavior to avoid scandal.
“You all grew up with Savile; Jesus, it must have been devastating,” Wood said.
“Clearly something major was going on in Hollywood. It was all organized. There are a lot of vipers in this industry. There is a darkness in the underbelly. If you can imagine it, it’s probably happened,” he said.
Wood said he avoided being abused because of his overly protective mother. He started acting in Hollywood when he was eight years old.
“This problem has been endemic in Hollywood for a long time and it’s finally coming to light. Very bad people are still working here, protected by their friends,” said Anne Henry, who co-founded a group to help young actors called “Bizparents.”
She told The Times around “100 active abusers” are preying on child actors and actresses in Hollywood.
She did not name names. Maybe she should.
