Otherwise, the interview went off without a hitch.
In fact, the Donald was downright chummy on stage, even though Kimmel has frequently lampooned the business mogul’s run for the nation’s highest office.
Trump is in California campaigning ahead of the state’s primary next month.
Kimmel kept the interview light. He introduced Trump as a “tangerine-tinted Godzilla” and “fire-breathing billionaire who incinerated all who opposed him to become his party’s presumptive nominee for President of the United States.”
Trump wasted no time bringing up his presumptive Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Kimmel was just as quick to point out the contradictions in Trump’s statements about Clinton.
In 2008 and as late as 2012, he noted, Trump praised Clinton and said she would make an excellent president. As a businessman, Trump explained, he speaks well about everybody. “They ask me for contributions, I give them contributions,” he shrugged.
“So you were full of crap when you said that,” Kimmel replied.
Although Kimmel prodded Trump jokingly, some of his remarks and questions were extremely pointed. He refused, for example, to accept Trump’s claim that he did not impersonate a PR person in an interview with People magazine several years ago.
Even so, Trump must have been pleased with the interview. His presidential campaign posted it on YouTube.
