Céline Dion has given birth to healthy fraternal twin boys at a Florida hospital, although both babies are undersized and will have to spend the next several days in an incubator, says Celine’s rep.
One of the boys weighed in at 5 lbs., 4 oz., while the other was 5 lbs., 10 oz.
“Celine, René and their son René-Charles are thrilled,” says her rep.
“Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up. René-Charles has been to the hospital to visit his brothers and is just so excited they are here.”
On the advice of doctors, the singer was admitted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla on Sunday (Oct. 18).
The hospital said the move is “for observation” and to ensure that Dion is close to her doctors as her due date approaches.
Dion, 42, and her husband/manager René Angelil, 68, also have a son, Rene-Charles, 9 and live on Florida’s Jupiter Island, where famous homeowners include Tiger Woods.
Celine, who suffered a miscarriage last year, underwent six in-vitro fertilization attempts before finally getting pregnant with the twins.
Dion’s son Rene-Charles was also conceived through in-vitro fertilization.
In 2000 at the peak of her career, Celine, a five-time Grammy winner, took a two-year hiatus after discovering Rene had throat cancer.”
It was a must,” Dion said in 2002 after resuming her career.
“I had to take those two years. I was with my husband who needed me the most at this period of his life.”
Angelil has since recovered and is doing well.
