Kristen Stewart continues to carry the banner worldwide for Elle magazine in the all important September fashion issue sweepstakes. In her latest cover she pops up on the magazine’s Malaysian edition with a far more understated look compared to other covers.
Stewart, 26, also covers Elle magazine’s English and Chinese editions with a decidedly tougher, more and androgynous look.
That might not have gone over so well in the religious, Southeast Asian nation. Although the country guarantees religious freedom, nearly two-thirds of the population is Muslim. Islam is the official state religion.
Stewart gives up the shocking blonde locks she sported in Elle’s English and Chinese editions for her natural brunette hair. It’s also more conservatively styled.
She wears a black collarless waist-length jacket over a white tank top that does flash a daring bit of midriff. Even that may be eye-opening for the country.
Stewart’s androgynous look coincides with her open embrace of lesbianism. She’s currently dating her on-again, off-again girlfriend Alicia Cargile.
She talks openly about the relationship in the magazine.
“I’m just really in love with my girlfriend. We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, ‘Finally, I can feel again,” she says.
Stewart likes to portray herself as a rebel non-conformist, but she may just be a fashion-plate after all.
The September issue is all-important for fashion magazines and they choose their cover models carefully to boost sales. US Vogue went with Kardashian clan member Kendall Jenner, while Vanity Fair went with Oscar-winning actress Alica Vikander.
