LeAnn Rimes: What Cover Scandal? Shape's Throwing a Party For Me

Shape magazine’s editor-in-chief Valerie Latona has apologized to readers for featuring singer LeAnn Rimes on its October cover, saying the fitness publication didn’t mean to put a “husband-stealer on a pedestal.”

Latona sent a mass e-mail out to subscribers acknowledging she had made “a terrible mistake” by putting Rimes, 28, on the cover after angry readers barraged her with complaints about LeAnn, who was involved in an extramarital affair with now-boyfriend Eddie Cibrian.

In the email, first obtained by TooFab, a groveling Valerie begs readers to “give us another chance,” explaining she featured LeAnn to show how the singer used exercise to get through a difficult period in her life. Latona’s e-mail apology reads:

Subject: To my dear Shape readers

You are all in good company (why I’m e-mailing you all together) as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover.

Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment.

But it did not come across that way … And for that I’m terribly sorry.

I hope that we can do better the next time for those of you that will give us another chance.

Humbly,

Valerie

Meanwhile, LeAnn tweeted Oct. 28 that she has no idea what Latona is talking about, and that this was the first she had heard of her cover controversy.

RIMES: WHAT COVER CONTROVERSY?

Rimes tweeted: “Just so all my fans know, I’m getting to the bottom of this. It’s the first I’ve heard of this. Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the 3rd time. I find this very contradictory.”

LeeAnn, a child country star who divorced her husband of seven years in 2009, was slammed in the press for having an affair with her married Northern Lights co-star Eddie Cibrian shortly before she split from her husband.

The 37-year-old Cibrian left his wife and two children for Rimes and filed for divorce in August 2009 after eight years of marriage. Looking back, Rimes said she is sorry that people got hurt in the situation but doesn’t regret falling in love.
