Donald Trump can’t stop talking about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado to the point of obsession, leaving his campaign floundering. Conservative supporters are desperately trying to get him refocused on issues like jobs and the economy.

Trump, however, has shown no interest in talking about issues on the campaign trail. Instead he’s focused on smearing Machado any way he can.

The situation reinforces the perception that Trump is vindictive and can’t control his temper.

The same concerns were raised when Trump said he would start a war with Iran over vulgar hand-gestures between sailors.

Dr. Ben Carson, a major supporter and GOP primary candidate, told MSNBC Trump is falling into a “rat hole” by attacking Machado obsessively.

The Venezuelan beauty won the Miss Universe title in 1996 when she was just 19-years-old and starting out in life.

She gained weight during her reign, causing Trump to repeatedly taunt, bully and humiliate her. Trump owned the pageant at the time.

Machado appeared in a campaign ad for Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, who told her story during Monday’s debate.

Afterward, Trump tried to smear her by calling her the worst pageant queen ever.

Machado has been on the talk show circuit recounting her experience, which led to an eating disorder, she said.

She told “Today’s” Natalie Morales that Trump ridiculed her with names like “Miss Piggy, “Miss Housekeeping” and “Miss Eating Machine,” she said.

In a new report today, former employees have sworn under oath that the 70-year-old GOP candidate pressured California golf course managers to hire young, thin women in the restaurant and clubhouse. He wanted those fired who didn’t fit the bill, regardless of experience.

Instead of letting the matter drop, Trump has brought up Machado every day since the debate, causing his campaign advisors to desperately try to get him back on track.

“If DonaldTrump talks about anything but HRC’s disastrous record on jobs & national security, he’s losing,” pleaded right-wing talking head Harlan Hill on twitter.

But Trump by all appearances is out-of-control.

This morning he unleashed another Twitter outburst against Machado, dragging his obsession with her in the news cycle again for the third day.

“Did Crooked Hillary help disgusting (check out sex tape and past) Alicia M become a U.S. citizen so she could use her in the debate?” Trump Tweeted in an obvious smear of both Clinton and Machado.

The alleged Machado “sex tape” Trump cited appeared to be a hoax widely promoted by fringe pro-Trump outlets, according to NBCNews.

Trump, of course, is ignoring his own sordid past. He once called venereal disease “my personal Vietnam” and has a long history of crude comments about women and adulterous behavior, according to NBCNews.
