The engagement spectacularly imploded during a stay on a luxury yacht in Greece in September, according to London’s Daily Mail.
They haven’t been seen together in more than a month. Meanwhile, Mariah has been spotted constantly over the past few weeks with back-up dancer and choreographer Bryan Tanaka, who is 13 years her junior.
“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah,” her spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight.
But judging from Mariah’s new demands, there appears to be bad blood between the two and a possible legal fight looming.
Mariah is reportedly incensed because she thinks Packer has personally cost her tens of millions of dollars since they began dating, according to gossip site TMZ.
Among the issues, she claims he uprooted her from New York City and pressured her to move to Los Angeles, so he could be near his kids, the site reports.
The explosive yacht trip is also figuring in the battle. Sources close to the singer say Packer did something “awful” to her assistant on the trip, leaving Carey “traumatized.”
A rep for Packer, however, denies anything like that happened.
She also reportedly claims Packer made financial promises to her and sealed their engagement with a $10 million, 36-carat diamond ring, which she’s reporting keeping.
Packer inherited the family company, Consolidated Press Holdings Limited, and built it into a multi-billion-dollar operation. Earlier this year, he was estimated to be worth about $5 billion.
Carey is no pauper. She’s worth about $500 million, according to estimates. With that kind of wealth, why she would need a $50 million payout is a bit puzzling.
Carey, however, is known to literally tear through money, and with Packer, money appeared to be no object.
The five-time Grammy winner may also want compensation for canceling the South American leg of her current tour, which she blames on the breakup.
