Technology has always been a big star in the “Star Wars” films and “Rogue One” is no exception.
All the usual suspects are there, including x-wing fighters, storm troopers, AT-AT Walkers from previous films. But K2SO, is new to the Star Wars universe and has a well-scripted back story.
Rebel fighter Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) captured the bot, which is actually an Imperial empire security droid. It stands an ominous seven-feet tall and is clad in black armor. He reprogrammed it to help the alliance.
In an earlier clip, K2SO could be spotted running behind Andor and Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). But this time, he actually talks… and what an attitude!
CP3O, voiced by actor Anthony Daniels, had the personality of a befuddled English butler. K2SO turns out to be a wise guy.
The droid is voiced by actor Alan Tudyk. In an interview, Tudyk said K2SO speaks his mind and has no problem disobeying orders.
In the clip, titled “Trust,” the droid appears in a scene where rebels are looking for volunteers to steal plans for the Empire’s Death Star.
“I’ll be there for you,” he says, surprising Jyn. “The captain said I had to,” he adds snappishly.
Yep, he’s all attitude.
In another scene, he walks into the middle of a street fight and casually announces what Jyn is already painfully aware of.
“Imperial forces are converging on our present location,” he says, casually tossing a hand grenade over his shoulder just as the storm troopers show up.
K2SO will obviously inject some sardonic humor in what otherwise will be a pretty grim movie.
