Late night comics Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah feasted on Donald Trump’s dinner with GOP critic Mitt Romney. The menu at the pricey New York City restaurant included frog legs and a rich serving of irony topped by a mound of hypocrisy.

The jury is still out on whether Trump is just toying with Romney as payback for all the harsh things he said during the campaign.

You may recall, he called Trump a “fraud.”

Or whether Trump is seriously considering him for Secretary of State (ha!).

No matter; the “Late Show” and the “Daily Show,” the last bastions of sanity in this increasingly upside down world, picked the dinner as a featured topic in last night’s shows.

How could they resist?

Trump and Romney met for what was supposed to be an intimate dinner at Jean Georges restaurant, where a full-course meal costs about as much as a blue-collar Trump supporter earns in a week.

The eatery (if we can deign to call it that) was conveniently located in the Trump International Hotel. Nothing like using your official duty as president-elect to plug a signature property.

Mitt, of course, has much to atone for in the wake of the election, which still has the nation reeling in shock. You may recall his choice words.

“His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” Romney said during the campaign. “He’s playing the American people for suckers. He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.” Ouch!

Or this one: “I don’t want to see trickle-down racism.”

Colbert summed up the dinner this way. Trump lorded over the meal like “the guy who fired the devil the week before Christmas.” Romney, who couldn’t seem to wipe that humiliating smirk off his face, appeared to be “eating crow.”

Trevor compared Romney to a jar of mayonnaise (no offense to the mayonnaise). “I get he’s super white,” he noted.
