Lady Gaga Rules MTV EMAs; See Top Artists Perform (Video)

Lady Gaga was noticeably absent from the MTV Europe Music Awards, but her dominating presence was felt after she won three awards for Best Pop, Best Song and Best Female and phoned in from her concert in Hungary. Otherwise, rock royalty was certainly on hand.

I wish so much that I could be there,” she said, before launching into a song for the MTV crowd in the Caja Magica in Madrid. “Get off my stage!” she shouted at the end.

Winners were picked by popular vote on MTV’s Europe Awards web site, and although this is arguably Europe’s biggest music event, U.S. artists dominated the show.

Only Canadian Justin Bieber won a major award. He topped Eminem and Kanye West for best male prize.

Among artists performing live, Colombian Shakira opened the show with British rapper Dizzee Rascal. Kings of Leon, Kid Rock and Miley Cyrus also took turns on stage.

Rihanna, with her now trademark red hair sang “Only Girl.”

“Desperate Housewives” actress Eva Longoria hosted the event.
