The skit is based on the discovery of a show that never aired on television.
Oddly, the original series only aired for two seasons in 1968 and 1969. Nonetheless, it captured the imagination of countless fans and became a cult classic. Both follow up television series and movies have been spun off.
Pine was tapped in 2009 to play Enterprise commander James T. Kirk in the 11th film in the “Star Trek” franchise. He’s since starred in 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and 2016’s “Star Trek: Beyond.”
A fourth film is reportedly in the works.
In the skit’s “unaired” episodes, Mr. Spock, the half-Vulcan, half-human science officer, reveals he has a half-brother, “Spocko.” He’s the result of a tryst between Spock’s Vulcan dad and a pizza parlor waitress.
Spocko is played by a Sal Delabate (Bobby Moynihan) an Italian singer purportedly brought on the show to jazz up the ratings among younger viewers. He can’t quite shake his Queens accent.
