Imagine the problems getting the kids to soccer practice when they are budding X-men mutants. That’s the premise of a new Fox television series that will air this fall. The network released the first trailer and it’s packed with supernatural action.
The series is being bill as a big-budget play on Marvel’s super popular X-Men movie series.
It’s not the first case of reverse engineering when a movie spawns a television show instead of the other way around. Fox is hoping to capture the same young audience of X-Men fans with characters that are young and relatable.
The case includes heavy hitter Stephen Moyer, best known for the HBO series “True Blood.” He plays Reed Strucker, a who is torn between family responsibilities and his job as a high-powered district attorney.
Veteran television actress Amy Louise Acker, plays his long-suffering wife, who is trying to manage their gifted kids as a single mom.
Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes round out the cast.
Teale, Chung, Dumont and Redford play the mutants.
In the trailer, Reed and Amy discover their children have mutant powers. One (Teale) can absorb and manipulate photons. Another (Chung) has teleportation powers. And, another (Redford) can control magnetism.
After the government gets wind of their powers, the family hits the road and links up with a mutant underground.
