Lady Gaga is a bundle of contradictions and she tries to unwind them in a new documentary, “Gaga: Five Foot Two.” The first trailer for the flick was released today and shows her life, despite her success, is far more complicated and conflicted than it may appear.
If there is an overriding theme, it’s that being a pop star is no picnic.
“I go from everyone touching me all day and talking at me all day, to total silence. And all these people will leave and I’ll be alone,” Gaga sobbed.
She describes her life as filled with “paranoia, fear, body pain, anxiety.”
She also makes a sharp distinction between her stage persona and life outside the spotlight.
The latter includes strong family ties and a down-to-earth lifestyle.
The former is all glitz and showmanship.
In one interesting reveal, she seems to suggest that her outrageous costumes are, at least in part, a passive aggressive response to pressure from handlers to be “sexy.”
“The truth is, when producers wanted me to be sexy, I always put some absurd spin on it that made me feel like I was still in control,” she says in the opening scene.
The new documentary debuts on Netflix on September 22.
