Rapper 50 Cent has called Jay Z’s latest album 4:44 “golf course music,” and explains why on Conan O’Brien. He thinks the rapper has abandoned younger hip-hop fans.
“He just had the maturity bleed off into the material … It’s cool for me, like, in my car, I’m listening to it,” 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, told Conan.
“But the kids, I don’t see them actually listening to it,” he added.
The 42-year-old rap star said his problem isn’t so much with the New York star; it has more to do with his musical direction.
“I thought the shit was a’ight. I liked the shit, but I’m gonna keep it 100, the shit was too smart,” he said in an earlier interview.
“I felt like I was supposed to be wearing glasses and tie a fucking sweater around my waist. It was, like, Ivy League shit,” he added.
The rapper also claimed that Jay’s age, 48, now counts against him, suggesting the genre is a young man’s game.
“I’mma tell you the truth, nigga is hot out here. They don’t wanna hear that shit. They just wanna have a good time. Fuck that. You can’t be the best rapper at 47, because the new niggas is here.”
