Alison Brie has stepped up to defend James Franco, one day after Scarlett Johansson trashed him at the 2018 Women’s march in Los Angeles. Brie said she “really admires” his handling of sexual misconduct allegations.
Brie, of course, has a family connection. She’s married to brother Dave Franco.
She said her admiration stems from the way her brother-in-law has handled being accused of sexual misconduct.
The “Spring Breakers” actor has been accused by five women of sexual misconduct, largely involving his defunct actor’s school.
The 39-year-old actor denied any impropriety. He said he respects the group for speaking out and vowed to examine his own behavior.
“You know, I really admire how he’s handling everything, listening and being open to change,” Brie told “Entertainment Tonight.”
“I think we all need to support men being open to change if we want to see major change in this industry.”
In the wake of the allegations, Franco skipped the Critics’ Choice Awards, but returned to the limelight for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday (Jan. 21).
He was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
“Tonight is about the work that has been done, and I think it still is important for all of us to celebrate that,” she said.
The 35-year-old actress also spoke about the allegations in another interview on the red carpet, insisting it was right to “listen” to anyone who came forward and said they felt “victimized”.
She told E! News:
“I think that above all what we’ve always said is that it remains vital that anyone that feels victimised should and does have the right to speak out and come forward.I obviously support my family, and not everything that’s been reported has been accurate, so I think we’re waiting to get all the information. But of course now is the time for listening, and that’s what we are all trying to do.”
Franco vowed to “take responsibility” and “fix” anything he has done wrong and to “listen” to those who were unhappy with him.
She’s had no qualms about working with Allen on several films, despite a powerful outcry by step-daughter Dylan Farrow, who says Allen molested her when she was seven years old.
Allen has consistently denied the allegations and was never charged following an investigation.
Johansson belongs in a special class of hypocrites that includes Cate Blanchett, Kristen Stewart and Miley Cyrus, all of whom have all appeared in Allen’s films and claim to be feminists.
