Halsey, the rocketing singer-songwriter, tries her hand at directing with Sing J. Lee for her new “Sorry” video. It seems she has an eye on Hollywood, either in front of, or behind, the camera. But she’s got a few things to work out, first.
The singer, real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, has been on a roll since the release of her 2015 debut album Badlands.
The album not only went platinum, (selling more than 1 million copies, or equivalents) but also yielded four commerically successful singles.
“Sorry” is off her second studio album hopeless fountain kingdom released last June.
For the video, Halsey was definitely going for a full cinematic effect. For one, it was shot in “letterbox” style, a film format usually reserved for the big screen.
The clip, opens with the 23-year-old singer climbing out of a wrecked car bloodied and open-shirted. She surveys a dystopian landscape of junk fires and bombed-out looking buildings.
But the is one jarring anomaly. The scene also includes scattered about motorcycles and classic cars that are spotless! What’s with that?
Halsey bragged on Twitter, “a song recorded in 1 take, a video recorded in 1 take.”
Hmmm… maybe she should have given it a little more thought. In any event, she was happy with it, and looks the part.
“one of my fav things i’ve ever made. something to hold u over, here is SORRY,” she added.
