Selena Gomez is bouncing back from a bout of depression with help from on-again boyfriend Justin Bieber. She released her inner blonde in sizzling Harper’s Bazaar photos. Motorcyclists are literally flipping over her.
In an accompanying interview with actress Katherine Langford of “13 Reasons Why,” Gomez opens up about her health issues with depression and anxiety.
“I’ve been very vocal about it, but it’s not something I feel I’ll ever overcome,” she says. There won’t be a day when I’m like, ‘Here I am in a pretty dress– I won!’
“I think it’s a battle I’m gonna’ have to face for the rest of my life, and I’m okay with that because I know that I’m choosing myself over anything else. I’m starting my year off with that thought.
“I want to make sure I’m healthy. If that’s good, everything else will fall into place,” she explained.
Much of her anxiety can be traced to the constant churn of tabloid stories, so many of which are false. Sadly, she probably cares too much about her image.
Still, social media has provided an outlet for her to counter some of the hype, although it’s an uneasy relationship.
“I have a complex relationship with Instagram, to say the least,” she explains.
“It has given me a voice amid all the noise of people trying to narrate my life for me and allows me to say, “Hey, I’m gonna post this, and this is gonna take care of the 1,200 stories that people think are interesting but actually aren’t, and aren’t even true. The only thing that worries me is how much value people our age place on social media. It’s an incredible platform, but in a lot of ways it’s given young people, myself included, a false representation of what’s important. So, yeah, it’s a complex relationship. Probably one of my most difficult relationships.”
Selena also revealed that her next album is still a work in progress.
“My next album has been forever in the making. When people ask me why, I’m honest about it: It’s because I haven’t been ready. I mean, point-blank, I don’t feel confident enough in where my music is yet. If that takes 10 years, then it takes 10 years. I don’t care. Right now I just want to be super intentional with all of the things I’m doing.”
Gomez, 25, has been back in the spotlight in a big way because of her renewed relationship with Justin Bieber. The loutish singer caused her much pain the first time around.
This time, though, Bieber is reportedly supporting Selena following her stint in rehab for depression. She spent two weeks at the Privé-Swiss rehab facility in Connecticut last month.
Afterward, Bieber was spotted with her at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach. They were seated away from all the action outside by the pool for privacy.
“They took a walk on the path in front of the resort that overlooks the ocean. It was a cloudy day, [so] they didn’t spend too much time outside. Justin was showing Selena around and checking out the beautiful view,” a source told Page Six.
It was one of her first nights out in public since rehab.
“She’s on and off with Justin, but they’re back on … for now,” another source said.
