Jimmy Kimmel went on a shopping spree on Danald Trump’s new merchandise Web site. He was looking for America. Instead, he found China. The president talks a good game about buying American, but when it comes right down to it… he’s lying.
“Trump, as you know, wants to focus on America…American made products and goods. So, I wondered–because I agree with that–how things were going on his family Web site, TrumpStore.com,” he said.
“I’m sure Eric and Donald Jr. take this American thing very seriously. These guys are red, white and blue to the core. They’re like a couple of flags wearing hair gel, these kids,” he continued.
The Trump kids run the official family online store. It features “the very latest in Trump-branded merchandise, apparel, gifts and much more.”
So, Kimmel decided to buy some products, despite his wife’s protest. When the merch was delivered, it was like taking a trip to the Far East.
The Trump signature golf hat, golf club cover, duffle bag, shoe bag, collector medallion and blanket were all made in China.
A Trump brand coffee mug was made in Thailand, and a Trump baby bib was made in Peru.
But here’s where the shopping spree turns sinister.
Two of the products Kimmel bought–a coinbox and pet bandanna–did not list the country of origin, which just happens to violate U.S. Customs law.
And, that’s no small thing. Fines range as high as $500,000 per violation.
So, being a stand-up citizen, Kimmel did the only thing he could do.
