Rex Tillerson, the big stoic Texan who served as Secretary of State–until he got Trump dumped over Twitter– unloaded to CNN’s Anderson Cooper. He can’t believe the former CEO of $50 billion Exxon-Mobil could be fired by a “man who used to sell steaks in the mail.”
But, hey, this is “Saturday Nigh Live.” That’s really John Goodman playing Tillerson in the show’s cold open. But the really strange part is Trump really did fire him with a Tweet.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly caught Tillerson on the toilet with a case of the shits and told him by phone. True story!.
You just can’t make this stuff up. No wonder Trump has become the longest running joke in the sketch comedy show’s history.
Some familiar characters also made appearances.
Fred Armisten returned as Trump tell-all author Michael Wolff and Bill Hader reprised his role as the bombastic Anthony Scaramucci.
Kate McKinnon led off the spot as U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The versatile actress portrayed Session trying to weasel his way out of explaining why he fired Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe,. He took the step a day before McCabe qualified to receive his pension after 20 years of unblemished service.
“Mr McCabe was in clear violation… because of his lack of candor… I don’t know, I can’t dance around it, Trump made me do it,” he said. “McCabe, he saw too much.”
“Ok, so this was not your decision,” said Cooper.
“This was sneaky even for me, I’m just a simple man who wanted to make things bad for immigrants, and now here I am taking away the pension of a Christian white. It isn’t right!” he protested.
Next up, Rex, that is, Goodman.
“Trump is a moron!” Tillerson exploded with a twisted laugh. “Sorry, I blurted that one out. Feels nice to say what I want. Call Jurassic Park, because the Rexy is loose!”
Is he ever.
