Harvey Weinstein estranged wife Georgina Chapman lived for years in the eye of the hurricane while her husband’s sexual assault rampage swirled around her. Almost everyone in Hollywood knew about his behavior, why didn’t she?

In a startling interview, Chapman, 42–young enough to be her 66-year-old husband’s daughter–says was “terribly naive” about her spouse and had no idea he was hitting on starlets in droves.

“Absolutely not. Never,” she replied when asked if she knew about his behavior. “I’ve never been one of those people who obsesses about where someone is,” she added.

But Chapman, more than anyone, could have put a stop to Weinstein’s behavior, had she known about it. It’s almost inconceivable that she didn’t have some inkling. And why didn’t any of his more than 80 alleged victims clue her in?

She tells Vogue magazine in her first wide-ranging interview:

“At first I couldn’t (have therapy), because I was too shocked. And I somehow felt that I didn’t deserve it. And then I realized: This has happened. I have to own it. I have to move forward. There was a part of me that was terribly naive – clearly, so naive. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief!”

Weinstein was finally exposed last October in separate stories by The New York Times and The New Yorker magazine. More than 80 women, all involved in some way with show business, have accused him of using his power and influence in the industry to sexually harass or assault his victims.

“I was so humiliated and so broken … that … I didn’t think it was respectful to go out … I thought, ‘Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?’ It’s still so very, very raw. I was walking up the stairs the other day and I stopped; it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs,” Chapman said.

Georgina was born in London and worked as a model and costume designer. She started dating Weinstein in December 2004, around the same time he left his first wife, Eve Chilton, after 17 years of marriage. She was 28 at the time. They married in 2007.

They have two children, daughter India, 7, and Dashiell, who is seven months old.

“I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be? What are people going to say to them? It’s like, they love their dad. They love him. I just can’t bear it for them,” she told the magazine.

In 2004, Weinstein set up Chapman with her own fashion label, Marchesa, named after after socialite Marchesa Luisa Casati. Longtime friend Keren Craig partnered with her. Giuseppe Cipriani and Steve Witkoff also invested in the brand.

Since the scandal broke last fall, many celebrities have been boycotting Marchesa. But actress Scarlett Johansson showed her support by wearing a Marchesa gown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion gala earlier this week.

Harvey went into rehab for sex addiction after the scandal broke, although he has consistently denied wrongdoing. Any sex acts were consensual, he says.

Chapman also revealed that she had to undergo professional counselling following the avalanche of accusations made against him.
